How to encourage exchanges and discussions with my child?
💡 Our answer
Give them a tool that can take them on a journey through time!
Our My Little Concept clocks are first and foremost teaching tools for parents and professionals who live with children in nursery and primary school, to introduce and build the concepts of daily Time and Hours — but not only!
A map of Time to talk about the day
Indeed, being a mum myself, and since I designed these tools for my three daughters, I quickly realised that the 24h My Little DAY clock, which is a true map of Time, made it possible, on the way home from school, to talk about what had happened during their big day.
😄 Does this sound familiar?
Because I don't know about you, but before, whenever I asked about their school day, all I got was a little "yes", "no" — in short, the school of secrets!!!!
When they came home from school, I would quite often use their clock to ask them how their day had gone. By pointing at the routine stickettes positioned on the clock face, we could go back together over lunch time, having fun discussing what they had on the menu, talking about the moment when everyone went to wash their hands, nap time, the games they had played, her fits of laughter, and so on.
The routine clock worked equally well for talking about the day that had just passed — creating a moment of verbal exchange with my daughters about the moments they had experienced that were important to them, or the emotions they had felt — as it did for talking about the rest of the day continuing at home.
It had become a tool for bringing up memories of their day, and discussions flowed more easily. The clock thus served as an educational tool but also became a platform, a bridge, a support (an excuse?) to TALK with my children.
A tool for travelling through time
So as you will have gathered, since these clocks allow Time to be visualised, they will also be wonderful tools for helping the child to travel through time, to help them recall moments from their life, instants, and thus to help them put their memories and emotions into words.
✏️ In practice
Use the 24h clock to bring back the child's memories of their morning, what they had for lunch at the canteen, their games during break time… in short, create moments of talking, exchange and discussion to show your child that you are interested in what they experience.
You are giving them a framework for recalling their day — and that matters.
📋 In summary
By using our tools on a daily basis, the child will learn to master the concepts of Time and Hours. But the tool will also make it possible to create and facilitate moments of exchange, talking time, and discussion between the child and the adult. Why? Simply because you are giving them a map of time, and therefore an environment, a framework in which they can talk and recall what they experienced when you were away from them.
Beyond the educational aspect, My Little Concept clocks create moments of exchange and talking time with your children.
Maybe with this, your child will finally tell you about their day ;)
